Introducing Salt Run…
We are so glad you’re here!
A “salt run” is a natural convergence between saltwater and freshwater, where elements come together, shift, and create something new. That idea reflects how we see storytelling at Salt Run Entertainment. Different voices, backgrounds, and experiences flow together to form something honest and meaningful that reflects the place. The South has its own rhythm and texture. It also has its own stories that we want to honor, not reshape into something generic. Everything we do starts from that foundation: truth to screen.
Salt Run Entertainment is an independent production studio based in Spartanburg, South Carolina, built on a simple mission: bringing truth to screen by creating authentic, diverse stories that unite creatives, inspire audiences, and strengthen the Southern creative economy and the communities we serve. We develop and produce film and television, but our vision is broader than that. Our team at Salt Run Entertainment is building something bigger than a slate of projects. We are working to create a sustainable creative ecosystem that supports artists and creates opportunities for those artists to bring their own authentic, regional stories to life. Salt Run Entertainment has been intentionally structured on our foundational belief that great stories do not have to come from somewhere else: they can come from right here.
Salt Run Entertainment was co-founded by Charles Randolph-Wright and John Gramling III, two leaders from different fields who have followed very different paths, but who nevertheless have shared roots and are working to bring a shared vision to life. Charles brings decades of experience across film, television, and theater, with work spanning from Broadway to major screen productions. His creative leadership is rooted in storytelling that is bold, human, and culturally grounded. John is a Spartanburg native and local business leader whose work has a focus on long-term impact. He doesn’t just build projects, but creates infrastructure, partnerships, and economic opportunity around them. His work aligns purpose with sustainable growth.
That balance is at the core of everything we do.
But, Salt Run is more than its founders. We collaborate with local artists, students, crew members, and partners across the region, from institutions like Spartanburg Community College to organizations like Urban League of the Upstate. Through workshops, internships, and hands-on production opportunities, we are actively investing in the next generation of storytellers and builders. We are not interested in being closed off, and we hope to build something collaborative, where people can step in, learn, and stand on their own. Our goal is to shape the future of film and television in the Carolinas. That means producing high-quality work, but it also means creating jobs, developing talent pipelines, and proving that world-class production can happen here. Salt Run Entertainment was founded on the idea that creativity and community impact can and should go hand in hand.
We want to build an industry that lasts.
And we want to do it in a way that brings people with us.
This blog space will serve as a behind-the-scenes look at what we are working on and what we are learning along the way. Some posts may be quick updates. Others might give insight into what we are working on or a little more about the people who are making it happen.
Not everything will be polished, and that is intentional. We want this space to feel honest and in-progress. We are just getting started, and that is part of the excitement! If you are interested in creative work, storytelling, or watching something grow from the ground up, we hope you will follow along.
